Skate Report Wed 8 May 2002
Bondi skate. The thoughts of the night were started early by Will emailing me and saying he thought we "should push the envelope" and have a big one tonight. So when David leaned over and said "BONDI ?" my heart raced, as I knew we were in for a big skate and I have only been on a Bondi skate once before.

As this is a long skate (132kms by the GPS wasn't it Dave ?) we didn't stand around but set off straight up Oxford St. We kept to the left side of the road tonight as we weren't going to turn down Bourke St. Our first rest was at the top of Oxford St where a quick lap of Centennial Park was suggested. David gave a little talk to remind everyone that this was a quick and fairly hard push so before you went past the point of no return this was the time to pull out.

Now I am not sure of this area and soon had no idea where we were but as long as I kept up all was OK. Instead of going down Bondi Road and Campbell Pde (which last time for me was great and really fast) we stayed on Old south Head Road and came to the top of this really nice hill at the same time as the Paddy Wagon.

We waited a while and then hit this great long, fast downhill. What fun ! There were a few roundabouts that gave a few people some good brake practice and the run was really long. At the bottom a few people (Johnny) started to hitch hike a ride back up the hill. A girl in a volvo stopped and offered a lift so she had about a dozen skaters hanging off any lip of the car they could get a grip on.

All the way back to the top. Yeh Ha !!

Another great run back to the bottom was just as fun and maybe a bit quicker but when we got there David had already continued. We took off up the hill and after a while realised we should have caught up by now and when someone spoke to David we realised we were in front as they had gone a different way. We stopped to let the others catch up and then continued up the hill. Near the top will said to me had had left his helmet back where we stopped and would I wait for him. I stood near the top for a while and when will got back there was no one to be seen.

It was here we got lost. We went through Double Bay and I thought it was a pretty nice down hill but at the other end the hill back up was really steep and devoid of skaters. After a couple of quick phone calls Sean was able to guide us up to Darling point Road and down another great downhill Thornton Street to catch up with everyone at the CYC.

It wasn't long before we were at the top of the Cross and after a regroup at the fountain we got to skate through the Main Street. At Victoria Street David stood at the top of an old downhill we hadn't been to for a while. Down the fast and furious oneway Brougham Street bought us to Woolloomooloo Bay and Graham standing around without any skates. We stood and chatted for a while at the Service Station and decided that as it was late and there was a pub nearby we would call it a night. Some didn't stay and I hope there were quite a few who didn't because otherwise we lost many on the way.

Well, that's 2 Bondi skates I have been on and both have been just great skates. I hope everyone had as good a time as me. Next time I promise not to get lost.

See you all next week. Keep skating

Web site Design and Data based Features by

Sydney Bladers is not run by any one, no one owns it, no one is responsible for it, this web site is designed to help this sorry bunch of bladers who meet up every Wednesday night for a great time, no meeting times are planed by anyone, it is just a freak coincidence that up to 70 people meet up at the same place and time every Wednesday night and head off on the same direction some where around the city for 2 hours.

The web designer of this site (me) is not responsible if you do something stupid because of this web site, if you do I will plead insanity, I have many people on the city skate that will hold proof to this in court if need be. You read this information at your own risk, if you do something stupid then you are an idiot and don't come crying to me about it. If you take this disclaimer too seriously or think its stupid then you have no scene of humor and are probably a very boring person.
