Skate Report Wed 24 April 2002 Here we were for an Anzac Commemorative skate and the weather held out for a nice warm Sydney autumn night. So lets go!

The call was for another Ben Boyd Road run but as that was our last skate the maps were consulted and an old style run around the City was decided on. Don't forget that if you would like to skate to a particular place let it be known to David and I'm sure he will consider it.

An old fashion run it was so we took off back to the meeting place and kept going down Macquarie St to the Opera House along the garden path. No problems with errant skaters taking the quicker run straight down the hill this time so with security still warming themselves in their little shed we skated the scenic route around the Opera House foreshore to Circular Quay. From here we skated up to George St and took the shortcut through Wynyard Station to York St.

A short stop at the AAP building and then we crossed the road to No 1 York St. We didn't stay here for long (usually it is a great place to practice stair riding) before we took off down the underpass to Kent St. It was a pretty quick run through the underpass with little water at the exit to catch unwary skaters. After a catch up we skated straight down Kent St to Argyle Place for a couple of quick runs down the ski hill. Back up the steps and back along Kent St we went. While I was expecting a nice run down the Kent St Light run others had something else in mind so it was back to York St. Down York & George Sts to Central Station where we ran into a really friendly bouncer who proudly wore on of our stickers.

Instead of going straight up Harris St we went down to the parallel run favoured by Ben. Back at Harris St we stopped to catch up & ready ourselves for the quick Casino run. As luck would have it the Stairs are still closed so the chance of 2 runs down this fun fast hill was out of the question so all that remained was a run to the Pontoon bar. Well, that was what we thought. At Pyrmont Bridge we went down the expressway behind Darling Harbour and came out beside the Convention Centre for a nice "Human Slalom" run around the foreshore.

Did I mention the number of people out and about tonight ? As the next day was Anzac Day it seemed that many people decided to hang around in the City tonight and wait for the Dawn Service in the morning, so often we had to zig & zag around many non-skaters who were doing some zigging & zagging themselves. At the Pontoon Bar we were met with some barricades and bouncers who weren't aware that this was our watering hole and ordered us to the other entrance. Here we found our "friendly" security who sorted things out and let us in at our usual entrance. Seating was a little hard to come by though as there were many non skaters, who hadn't earnt their drink, there before us.

It was a pretty fun skate tonight. We seemed to do a bit of waiting around for others to catch up (but that is another beef). Hope you all had a good time.

Don't forget next week (1 May 2002) is a Virgin Skate so those of you who cant keep up during a normal skate this is the one for you.

Hope to see many of you who haven't skated for a while next week.
Keep skating

Sydney Bladers is not run by any one, no one owns it, no one is responsible for it, this web site is designed to help this sorry bunch of bladers who meet up every Wednesday night for a great time, no meeting times are planed by anyone, it is just a freak coincidence that up to 70 people meet up at the same place and time every Wednesday night and head off on the same direction some where around the city for 2 hours.

The web designer of this site (me) is not responsible if you do something stupid because of this web site, if you do I will plead insanity, I have many people on the city skate that will hold proof to this in court if need be. You read this information at your own risk, if you do something stupid then you are an idiot and don't come crying to me about it. If you take this disclaimer too seriously or think its stupid then you have no scene of humor and are probably a very boring person.
