Skate Report for Virgin Night 5 Dec 2001 Time for the last Virgin Skate for the year and what a great night for a skate it was.

Traffic at the bridge tollgates was our excuse tonight so David lead everyone to the second meeting spot (not). It was great to see some new faces again tonight and the return of some for their second & third skate. Hope you all enjoyed yourselves and it made you feel that you would like to try that again.

With some new faces it was straight to the Art Gallery for a little brake testing & skills sharpening. A few of the venturous went around the loop and I snuck down to the stairs with a few others. After an extended training session David was keen to get this group going so he drew us away to Hyde Park.

After a quick stop for a photo opportunity and quiet skate along the Hyde Park walkway David took us on one of his legendry zig - zags through the Memorial side and back to the fountain. From here it was a nice glide down the path to St James Station then down to the QVB. While we were waiting at one of the lights some goose, who thought he was having more fun than us, threw an egg at us. Luckily it missed me. Did anyone get hit ?

We stopped at the entrance to the QVB for another great group shot (we always miss out on a few who are off riding stairs or getting "just one more downhill") and then someone suggested we skate around the Xmas Tree in the middle. Now, having seen the effects of the bossy Security in here before I was a bit hesitant but we took our own Security, Sean, to protect us.

It looked as if the end of the night was coming pretty early tonight as we took off down Market St towards Pyrmont Bridge but David had other things in mind as he skated straight over the bridge non-stop. When we got there there was a bit of a conference to work out how we could keep those who liked to use their brake on a lesser slope happy and to take in the Casino Hill run, so we went backwards down the hill from Pyrmont Bridge Hotel to the Casino. At the bottom of this we were able to check out some of the boats from the Round-the-World Race. We also had another first (well nearly) and stopped at Pyrmont Point Park while those who felt they needed to challenge themselves took to the steps shortcut. A lot of talk went on at the top but if you wanted another run you had to be quick. That is the idea and boy isn't it fun on the second, and much quicker, run. I must have dawdled here because once again I found myself at the back and the queue at Pontoon bar a bit later.

That refreshingly cool drink was sure called for as the nights are getting decidedly warmer so I hope the weather is calling you all out for a skate.

That was another great skate and I hope you all had a good time. If you found you could handle that, the normal skate goes a bit quicker and has a few more steeper hills (both up & down). For those who felt a need to keep practising their braking until the next Virgin Skate have a great Chrissy and see you next year. For the rest of you see you next week as there a few more skates left for 2001. Boy that hurt !

One Important thing I think needs to be pointed out could not be said any more succinctly (probably spelt better) than our own Website Designer, and now (it seems) ex-skater, Christian. We all are here for a good time and I'll let him finish -

"Sydney Bladers is not run by any one, no one owns it, no one is responsible
for it, this web site is designed to help this sorry bunch of bladers
who meet up every Wednesday night for a great time, no meeting times
are planed by anyone, it is just a freak coincidence that up to 70 people
meet up at the same place and time every Wednesday night and head off
on the same direction some where around the city for 2 hours.

The web designer of this site (me) is not responsible if you do something stupid because of this web site, if you do I will plead insanity, I have many people on the city skate that will hold proof to this in court if need be. You read this information at your own risk, if you do something stupid then you are an idiot and don't come crying to me about it. If you take this disclaimer too seriously or think its stupid then you have no scene of humor and are probably a very boring person.
