Skate Report Wed 31 August 2005

Have I mentioned MISSION SKATE before?

Bill had it in his mind we were really going to do something really different tonight. There has been some talk for a while now about catching a train out to Olympic Park and skating back but Bill thought we could skate there!

With a quick look in the street directory we thought we could skirt around Parramatta Rd and in & out some back lanes until we got there.

We started off with a small group of about 9 which included 3 skaters who hadnít been on a City Skate before, but felt they were up to it. We lost the first one through Hyde Park and the others somewhere around Annandale (where Phil caught up to us). We figured we would skate until about 10:30 which would be our turn around point but when 11:00 came we thought we were too close to turn back now. Little did we realise how close we werenít really.

We took heaps of great back lanes & cycleways (some in near pitch black) and sometime I even knew were we were and at one stage called everyone back as we were heading over the railway line at Nth Strathfield to have a great downhill run into Homebush.

Finally we skated up to our goal of Telstra Stadium where we heard the last train leave the Olympic Station. Oh well, who wants to skate back to the City?

We decided to stick to Parramatta Rd to make the route a bit quicker (and perhaps finding a drink stop too). At about Concord we passed a Taxi station where a Maxi Cab was just leaving and Bill whispered in my ear Ďdo you want to get a cab?í My legs were doing the thinking for me so I hailed the poor cabbie but as I was getting in Mark told me it wasnít too far so we should really keep going. It was the top of Taverners Hill where my legs finally succumbed & I jumped into a cab only to beat the others to the cars by a couple of minutes. Well done guys. By now it was really really late.

The next day Bill ran his curser over the digital directory and reckoned we skated over 40kms.

What a fantastic skate. Iím ready to try it again one day. What a MISSION!

There are 4 Photos for this skate. All are linked to this report and are in the images section

Are you READY??

Get Ready for the
5th Annual
Biggest City Skate EVER !

Wednesday 2 Nov 2005 is the date to put into your diaries to get your dancing skates out and get your friends revved up ready to go. Don't forget to make sure all your gear is working before the night.

Lets see if we can get a bigger turn out than last year (135 or so skaters). Maybe we can get over 200 this year. We should be able to do that if everyone brings along a couple of friends.

To all of you who used to come into the City regularly for a City Skate now is the time to check your gear and come along to say hello to your skating mates. We would really love to see you there.

As with all Virgin Nights if it rains the Biggest City Skate - EVER! will be postponed until the next fine Wed.

Friday Night Sydney Skate

Don't forget Friday Nights "Friday Night Sydney Skate" it is held every Friday Night.

Sydney Bladers is not run by any one, no one owns it, no one is responsible for it, this web site is designed to help this sorry bunch of bladers who meet up every Wednesday night for a great time, no meeting times are planed by anyone, it is just a freak coincidence that up to 70 people meet up at the same place and time every Wednesday night and head off on the same direction some where around the city for 2 hours.

The web designer of this site (me) is not responsible if you do something stupid because of this web site, if you do I will plead insanity, I have many people on the city skate that will hold proof to this in court if need be. You read this information at your own risk, if you do something stupid then you are an idiot and don't come crying to me about it. If you take this disclaimer too seriously or think its stupid then you have no scene of humor and are probably a very boring person.
