Skate Report Wed 19 Nov 2003

It was a fantastic warm day in sunny Sydney today and you would have thought there were many skaters waiting for a big run.

Well David was here and ready to take the reins and he also had a route in mind. With the Idolisers taking nearly all parking in the City and letting off Fireworks around the Opera House we started down Macquarie St for a better view. We crossed the Cahill Expressway walkway hoping the fireworks would be in the middle of the harbour only to find they were more hidden by the "Toaster" at Circular Quay.

After the last of the fireworks we skated down to the Opera House around Circular Quay & The Rocks to Peir 1 where we regrouped and then took off up the steps to Lower Fort St where we skated up to Cumberland St and the City side of the Harbour Bridge. Thinking the wind was a bit strong to skate the bridge & we were here for a quick downhill run David then called out we were going over the bridge. What a great view of the concert at the Opera House we had from our vantage point and the wind wasn't too strong either. We got to Milsons Point where those who were in for a quick run down to Luna Park had time while the others went for a drink stop.

Back at the steps we started over the Cycle path of the bridge and were told by the security to move on and not congregate on the path. There were a few quiet cyclists coming in the other direction who must have got a surprise coming upon such a big group of skaters pushing quickly to the end. At Observatory Hill we regrouped ready for a run down the Ski hill through the bus terminus and past the Lord Nelson Hotel. At the bottom there was time for those who wished to have another run then we all headed back up the stairs to Kent St.

Here we debated whether to go just as the lights at the bottom of the hill turned Orange or to wait until after the lights had turned Orange. So there was a bit of a spread out line of skaters who hit the bottom of the hill racing against the Red. From here we skated down Erskine St and around to the Cargo Bar where the worn out ones stopped for their celebratory drink while those who had enough energy for another run skated around the ramp to Pyrmont Bridge. Taking the run down to the Casino and through the bus entrance bought us out at the lift back up to Point St and around to John St ready for a fast run down the Casino Hill. Quite a few of those left felt the need to have a big run up so skated up John St and pushed really hard while those who waited on the corner of Harris St were able to wave them on around the traffic. At the bottom only a few wanted to go back up the steps for another run as the time was getting away. After another very quick run we headed back to Pyrmont Bridge and around to the Cargo Bar for a well earned thirst quencher.

Wow! what a fun night. I hope you all enjoyed tonights skate and are ready for a big run next week from Chatswood.

Hope to see you all on the Chatswood Skate next week.

Keep skating.

Sydney Bladers is not run by any one, no one owns it, no one is responsible for it, this web site is designed to help this sorry bunch of bladers who meet up every Wednesday night for a great time, no meeting times are planed by anyone, it is just a freak coincidence that up to 70 people meet up at the same place and time every Wednesday night and head off on the same direction some where around the city for 2 hours.

The web designer of this site (me) is not responsible if you do something stupid because of this web site, if you do I will plead insanity, I have many people on the city skate that will hold proof to this in court if need be. You read this information at your own risk, if you do something stupid then you are an idiot and don't come crying to me about it. If you take this disclaimer too seriously or think its stupid then you have no scene of humor and are probably a very boring person.
