Biggest City Skate - EVER!
Wed 6 November 2002 WOW! How fun was that ?

First I must say a big thank you to everyone who came along it was great to see so many happy skaters. I believe the count was 151 which was more than 50% more than last year. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves and had such a great time that you are looking forward to the next Virgins Night.

It was also great to see our fearless leader, David back from overwork & a sore knee. Many thanks David for a skate well led.

After a quick stop for skate tuning David explained to everyone about the City Skate from the top of the steps and then it was off to Hyde Park for some runs through on the smooth asphalt. We nearly became part of the Gay Games as there was a party in full swing while we skated through (much to the amusement of the Gendarmes ensuring no one played up). A quick run down the steps took us to the other side of the park where things were much quieter and we were able to do one of Davids Zig-Zagging things around the paths. At the top near Oxford St we stopped for a breather and a quick photo opportunity (you guys will have to stop being shy and get in much closer if we are going to fit you all in) and then took off back through the park to Park St and down to Pitt St.

Pitt St Mall was an easy wide run for 151 people and then we were off to Martin Place. After a quick run in here we continued on towards Circular Quay. Around past the International Terminal and across the boardwalk at the Park Hyatt (I think by now I was last and trying to catch up). From here we went under the bridge up to the Sydney Theatre Company Wharf where we were accosted by a bunch of theatre goers leaving a show. I had to take a photo of a young group of (who were they Georg?) “girls out on a good night”.

A bit further on there was an opportunity, for those who were waiting for a hill, to take the steps to the top and race back down to catch up with the rest of the group along the flat.

It wasn’t too far along here now and the Cargo Bar was in sight so the pace picked up a bit until the tables at the bar were taken. Another group decided it was too close to the Casino Hill not to have a go so they left those inside to have one last quick run. This team got very spread out and all arrived back in dribs and drabs. I got back last (or nearly last) as the bar closed so missed most of you.

I hope you all had a good time and now understand what fun it is to roll around this great city when most people are home thinking of bed.
Now you know what skills you need to brush up on to enable you to come along for a normal skate. Much bigger hills, up & down, and a lot quicker on the flats.

Hope to see you all soon.

Keep skating
Phil A

So that was the Biggest City Skate EVER ! for another year.
A huge thanks for everyone who came along to make it such a fun night. I hope you enjoyed yourselves and will come back for a skate every now & then. See you next time.

Web site Design and Data based Features by

Sydney Bladers is not run by any one, no one owns it, no one is responsible for it, this web site is designed to help this sorry bunch of bladers who meet up every Wednesday night for a great time, no meeting times are planed by anyone, it is just a freak coincidence that up to 70 people meet up at the same place and time every Wednesday night and head off on the same direction some where around the city for 2 hours.

The web designer of this site (me) is not responsible if you do something stupid because of this web site, if you do I will plead insanity, I have many people on the city skate that will hold proof to this in court if need be. You read this information at your own risk, if you do something stupid then you are an idiot and don't come crying to me about it. If you take this disclaimer too seriously or think its stupid then you have no scene of humor and are probably a very boring person.
